ANTIMICROBIAL APPLICATIONS FOR PET FOOD
Dry Animal Proteins, Powder Proteins, and Kibble Pre-mix
Dry rendered proteins are supremely challenging for pet food producers and rendering companies alike. Taking highly contaminated raw materials, which include bacteria-loaded animal entrails, these raw materials are thoroughly cooked to eliminate all bacteria pathogens. But prior to cooking, the damage of introduction of these highly contaminated raw materials has already been done, leaving a facility thoroughly contaminated, and subjecting the dry, sterile raw materials to further cross contamination.
The natural antimicrobial-antioxidant TopShieldR Plus™ was developed specifically to address the problem of pathogens in dry proteins and dry feed stuffs. TopShieldR Plus™ is proven effective to contain gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli), Salmonella, Campylobacter, Shigella, and Enterobacteriaceae (ebac). TopShieldR Plus™ can be delivered to either significantly reduce, or ELIMINATE all Salmonella CFU's, achieving salmonella-free animal proteins. By using a synergistic, patent-pending formula of vegetable derived fatty acids, and vegetable derived antioxidants, TopShieldR Plus™ can eliminate salmonella on animal proteins without the use of caustic acids. Meat DefendR™ is proven effective in dry proteins, especially vegetable proteins and grain products, to contain gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli), Salmonella, Campylobacter, Shigella, and gram-positive bacteria Listeria, Bacillus, Clostridium, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus. Meat DefendR™ is also proven to eliminate pathogen trace markers of Enterobacteriaceae (ebac), a gram-negative bacteria family.
Wet Meat Proteins, Whole Muscle Cuts, Treat Muscles
Of all the raw materials used in Pet Food production, whole muscle cuts are richest in protein content. Because of this high protein source, the pathogens that find their way to host on these proteins tend to grow their Colony Forming Units (CFU) much more rapidly and to greater numbers found in any other pet food ingredient. Cooking may eliminate these pathogens, but not before they have spread through any materials they may have contacted within the pet food manufacturing plant. For optimum reduction of these pathogens before they grow, FoodSafe Technologies recommends use of Meat DefendR™ antimicrobial in raw product wet proteins and whole muscle cuts, and whole cuts intended for grind or treats.
